Roofing and Waterproofing Craft Training

Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing crews in Oklahoma recently completed a two-day Upskill Training course. The crew members, originally trained in waterproofing installation, were cross trained to learn the roofing trade. The course included an overview of commercial roofing systems, roofing details, QA/QC procedures and productivity standards. While maintaining safe practices for general construction hazards plus COVID-19, the crew members learned installation techniques for single ply roofing systems, both TPO and PVC. They also studied heat welding utilizing hand welders and robotic welders. Carlisle Syntec Systems joined the course to help instruct and train the group.

We at Chamberlin know the importance of craft training for safety, quality and productivity purposes. An important part of this initiative is Chamberlin University, which was conceived and developed in 2006 to train and educate our workforce. Classes cover commercial roofing and waterproofing systems, installation methods, details and more. Educating Chamberlin team members on safety, technical skills and soft skills empowers them to deliver quality, cost-effective projects that are completed safely and productively. Since Chamberlin University’s implementation, hundreds of craft workers and superintendents have graduated from the course.

Earlier this year, eleven more craft professionals in our Dallas market joined the graduating classes upon completion of a Roofing Apprenticeship. Classes were held weekly for three months and included both classroom instruction and hands-on application. The course covered blueprint reading, roof system installation, repairs and materials. Some systems studied included hot air welding, low-slope assemblies and torch-applied roofing.

Chamberlin will continue to dedicate time and resources to training our workforce. Proper education and training offers each crew member the ability to work safely, deliver higher quality installations to our clients and allows them the opportunity to advance their career.
