Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing is proud to partner with Rogers O’Brien, the Uvalde County Hospital Authority, and O’Connell Robertson to help bring this important project to life. Led by Waterproofing Project Manager Cesar Alvarez, Chamberlin’s waterproofing team is delivering a comprehensive scope that includes sheet waterproofing, unit masonry, fluid-applied air barriers, sheet metal, thermal insulation, high-temperature underlayment, soffits and fascia, interior and exterior expansion joints, building joint sealants, and site sealants. 

Overcoming Early Challenges

Every successful project encounters obstacles, and this one was no exception. Frequent rain during the early stages of construction created scheduling challenges that threatened to delay progress. To keep the project on track, Chamberlin mobilized an experienced waterproofing crew to complete critical work ahead of subsequent trades.

Consistent communication has also been instrumental to the project’s success. Weekly coordination meetings with Rogers O’Brien and fellow trade partners have allowed the team to proactively address challenges, align schedules, and maintain momentum throughout construction. 

Delivering Lasting Value

Beyond executing its contracted scope, Chamberlin has delivered added value through both craftsmanship and adaptability. 

The team fabricated custom sheet metal that served as the foundation for the project’s stone and brick veneer, providing both structural support and long-term weather protection. Chamberlin’s attention to detail was further demonstrated when every flashing and window flashing assembly successfully passed water testing without a single failure, a testament to the quality of the installation. 

That exceptional performance earned the confidence of the project team. After the originally contracted subcontractor was unable to successfully complete the window sealants, Chamberlin was asked to take over that portion of the work as well, further reinforcing the trust built through consistent quality and execution.  

Quality Through Collaboration

With a project of this size and complexity, quality control has played a critical role from start to finish. Chamberlin utilized ProjectSight to manage Job Hazard Analysis and QA/QC reporting while collaborating through Procore with foremen, superintendents, and the general contractor to review updated drawings, coordinate schedules, and ensure installations met the highest standards. 

This commitment to collaboration has allowed the project team to remain aligned while maintaining the level of quality expected on a healthcare facility designed to serve the community. 

Safety First

Protecting every worker on the jobsite has remained a top priority throughout construction. During the project, Chamberlin’s Safety Team identified an issue with a suspended scaffold being shared among multiple trades. Before anyone continued using the equipment, the team ensured the scaffold was repaired, helping prevent potential incidents and protecting every worker on site. 

The project’s strong safety culture was further exemplified by Chamberlin Foreman Osvaldo Fuentes, who was recognized for leading daily stretch-and-flex exercises each morning before work began, helping crews prepare for the day’s activities while reinforcing the importance of injury prevention.

Milestone Worth Celebrating

One of the most memorable moments of the project came when the final structural steel beam was installed. The milestone was celebrated by the project team and community members, recognizing not only the progress of the building itself but also the continued growth and optimism of Uvalde. 

The expansion represents another meaningful investment in a community that continues to rebuild through improvements to healthcare, education, and public spaces. As Uvalde grows, projects like this hospital expansion will help ensure residents have access to modern facilities designed to support generations to come.
