More than football games are won at McLane Stadium
On August 30, 2014, McLane Stadium opened in Waco, TX, fulfilling a dream many Baylor University faculty and alumni have held for years. Built along the Brazos Riverfront, the stadium is connected to Baylor’s campus with a pedestrian bridge. It boasts 45,000 seats, 30 suites, six founder’s suites and 79 semi-private Loge boxes. A whopping $250 million project, the 860,000 square foot multi-functional facility will host world-class music, community and sporting events throughout the year in addition to Baylor University football. McLane Stadium will be a catalyst for economic development along the Brazos River and throughout downtown Waco.
Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing installed air barrier and metal through wall flashing on the exterior walls, in addition to cavity insulation between the air barrier and the brick. Traffic coating and firestopping were also included in their scope. The exterior brick joints and precast bowl were sealed and preformed expansion joints were installed, running up the precast bowl and through the concourse. Chamberlin applied a graffiti sealer and water repellent to the exterior of the stadium. Additionally, they designed and installed a subroof between the bottom of the stands and the ceiling of the suites and other rooms located below them.
Chamberlin gained recognition for this project from ENR Texas and Louisiana, winning a Best Project Merit Award in the Specialty Contracting Category. The ENR Best Project Awards program is dedicated to honoring the best construction projects and the companies that designed and built them. The projects are judged on five criteria, including safety, innovation and teamwork..The project team for the McLane Stadium included general contractor Austin Commercial, Populous, and The Conley Group. Together, they built an impressive stadium that will entertain millions for years to come.
