Chamberlin Honored with Platinum Safety Award
Chamberlin’s commitment to safety is priority one in everything we do. While maintaining a positive safety record is important to our work, the most important thing is the safety of our crews and those around us. This is why it is a special honor to receive a Platinum Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Safety Training and Evaluation Program (STEP). This is Chamberlin’s third consecutive year to achieve the highest level in the award program.
STEP is an accreditation program written by ABC member contractors. To achieve platinum level, among other requirements, a company must have a total recordable incident rate at least 25 percent below the industry average in one of the past three years, submit their official U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration form on work-related injuries and illnesses for review, and secure a declaration from their insurance company that supports the company's STEP self-evaluation score.
“It truly is an honor and a privilege to be able to recognize Chamberlin for their continued dedication to providing training and safe workplaces for their employees,” said ABC President and CEO Kirk Pickerel. “Winning companies have used the STEP program to evaluate and build upon already stellar safety programs and become leaders in training and incident prevention. Indeed, STEP Award recipients continue to strive for our most important goal, to send every construction industry employee home safe to their families, every day.”
STEP was established in 1989 by the ABC National Environment, Health & Safety Committee to assist ABC member contractors in evaluating and improving corporate safety practices and recognize outstanding safety training efforts. STEP awards are presented annually in four categories: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Each year, over 2,000 contractors of various sizes participate in the STEP program.
Chamberlin’s next course of action is to submit a safety qualification package to ABC National and compete in the National Safety Excellence Awards for the second time. Chamberlin won this prestigious award in 2008.
